33rd SUNDAY OF THE YEAR
THANK GOD FOR PETS
God loves animals; how you treat them reveals a lot about your character. The Living Bible says, “A good man is concerned for the welfare of his animals,” (Prov. 12:10). Doctors have discovered that people with pets live longer, stay healthier, recover faster and experience less depression.
A man wrote to a hotel in Florida where he wanted to go for a holiday and raised the question, “My dog is very well behaved, could I bring my dog with me?”
The hotel owner wrote back,
“I have been operating this hotel for years and in all that time I’ve never had a dog steal towels bedclothes, silverware or pictures off the walls. I have never had to evict a dog in the middle of the night for being drunk and disorderly; I’ve never had a dog run out without paying the bill. Yes indeed your dog is welcome here and if your dog will vouch for you, you’re welcome to stay here too.”
When God made animals he said, “It was good” (Gn.1: 21), because they offer us friendship, beauty, strength, courage and many of the virtues of humankind without some of their vices.
So enjoy them, thank God for them and take good care of them.
