PRAYER FOR PENTECOST 2020

Heavenly Father,
Your Son, our Lord Jesus, promised that you would not refuse the Holy Spirit to those who ask.
Therefore we ask you Father, in these days of Pentecost, to send your Holy Spirit upon us, to renew in our lives the gifts we received in Baptism and Confirmation. We ask you to help us to live like Jesus.

Release us from all sin and sinful compulsions. Deliver us from negative feelings, attitudes or prejudiced ways of thinking, speaking or acting. Purge us of any self-pity that blinds us to the needs of others. Help us to be grateful for all the many gifts we have received, both spiritual and material; for these we thank you. We ask you to help us to live like Jesus.

May your Spirit restore in us all that needs to know the touch of your healing love. Heal us in mind and body.  At this time deliver us from Covid 19. Bless our homes. Restore our marriages, our families, and our communities. Sanctify our bishop, priests and religious, and help us all to work together in our diocese. We ask you to help us to live like Jesus.

Guide by your grace the nations of Europe and the World. Open our eyes to the wonder of your creation; may we treat it with reverence. We ask you to help us to live like Jesus. May we learn to respect the human dignity of all. May all nations promote and respect religious freedom. Heal us from the selfishness and blindness that cause war and strife. Open the hearts of our leaders to the needs of less fortunate nations. We ask you to help us to live like Jesus.

May your Spirit guide all Christians into unity, that all may come to know your love. We ask you to help us to live like Jesus.

May the prayers of Mary, who joined with the disciples in prayer awaiting the coming of the Spirit, help us now; with one voice we pray: “Send us your Spirit and help us to live like Jesus.”
